here in New Jersey. Whenever it gets like this I start

How to Cheat...and Get Away With It

I don't know about ya'll, but if I don't get at least a
little Hershey's chocolate and/or pistachio ice cream
and/or apple pie at least a couple times each week I
start to freak out.
Really, I do.
Luckily, there's a certain time of day every Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday that I can eat these things and not
only NOT gain any fat, but actually build more muscle!
You see, those are the days I lift weights. And I know that
for about 40 minutes after I finish my weight workout I can
eat just about anything I want and my body will use it all
to repair the muscle tissue I just (slightly) damaged.
It's hard to believe, but a scoop of ice cream and a whey
protein shake is actually a REALLY good post-workout meal!
Simple sugars (like those found in ice cream) are useful
after weights because they help shuttle protein and glucose
into your muscles. This helps build more muscle, which in
turn increases your metabolism, which in turn helps you
lose more weight and keep it lost.
It's a win-win-win situation.
Don't go crazy with this idea. Even bodybuilders don't go
home and eat 3 tubs of ice cream after their workouts. Eat
just enough of your favorite high-sugar "cheat" food to
satisfy your cravings for a few days.
You may be cheating on your diet but this time you'll get
away with it...

Cold Weather Workout Options

People gain weight in the winter because it's too cold to
exercise outside. So what can you do to shed fat, or keep
it from coming back, in the winter? Try these things:
1. Buy some workout tapes - Get a few different kinds so
you don't get bored.

2. Buy a good jump rope - Jumping rope is one of the best
cardio workouts you can get anywhere! Be careful though.
Jump on a surface that "gives" like a carpet or a mat, or
you could develop knee, shin, or ankle problems (like I
did!).
3. Buy some good home workout equipment. As I've said
before, a good treadmill/elliptical machine/home gym could
be the best investment you'll ever make. And you can
usually save a lot of money if you buy online.
