How Not to Workout

A major problem I see with people trying to exercise
regularly in order to lose weight is that they do the
same things over and over and over again. After a few
months they simply get bored and, for the most part, give
up.
They're in an exercise rut!
In order to stick with it and be successful over the long
term, fitness HAS to be fun. And doing the same exercise or
the same workout routine repeatedly is definitely NOT fun.
You'll eventually get bored out of your mind, burnt out, and
your progress will slow dramatically.
The key is to mix it up. Don't always run on the treadmill.
Don't always go to the gym. Don't always do 3 sets of 10
reps with 20 lb. dumbbells. Don't always take the Tuesday and
Thursday night aerobics class...
I think you get my drift.
One of my favorite ways to mix it up is to take a day off
from the gym and do a "body weight obstacle course" instead.
Basically I go outside and do a series of slow jogs,
sprints, 3-point pushups, pullups, body weight squats, and
just about any other no-weight movement I can think of.
I often finish by riding my mountain bike or playing
basketball for half an hour. Trust me, this kind of workout
is incredibly effective for total body toning and weight
loss!
Another good way to mix it up is to get some fun home
workout tapes. I especially enjoy the ones from Beach Body:
Whatever you do, DON'T do the same thing every week. At the
very least mix up your weight and cardio routine with
different exercises, machines, and set/rep combinations.
You'll get better results AND you'll have more fun!

A Few Good Weight Loss Snacks
-----------------------------
Every wonder what makes a good weight loss snack? The key is
to eat a small amount of "nutrient-dense" food -- enough to
fill you up and give you energy without destroying your diet
(calorie-wise).
The following snacks aren't only healthy, they taste pretty
good too. And they combine fat, protein, carbs, and fiber in
the right ratios. Here they are:
- Natural peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread
- Apple slices topped with natural peanut butter
- A few whole-wheat crackers with hummus
- Half a turkey sandwich with low-fat mayonnaise
- A handful of nuts and raisins
- A cup of bean or lentil soup
There are many more good weight loss snacks but this should
give you an idea of what kinds of food to eat between meals.
